Chapter 1: Preparing the Lawn Before Using the Robotic Mower

In order to prepare the lawn before using the robotic mower, do the following:

  1. Clear any obstructions and/or debris from your lawn.
  2. Using a separate mower, mow the lawn to a height of 50 mm (2 inches).
  3. Fill in any holes in the lawn that could stop the mower.
  4. To ease the setup process using the app, make a sketch of the mowing zone and all obstacles, boundaries, transit paths, exclusion zones to make it easier to install the charging station.

Chapter 2: Power Supply

2.1: Power Supply Information

WARNING

A power supply plugged into a non-GFCI or non-RCD receptacle could result in electric shock.

Plug the power supply into only a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) or residual-current device (RCD) receptacle with a tripping current not more than 30 mA.

WARNING

A malfunctioning or damaged charging station, low-voltage cable, or power supply could overheat and cause an increased risk of fire.

Do not install the charging station, low-voltage cable, or power supply near flammable or combustible materials.

If the power supply to the charging station is malfunctioning or damaged, disconnect the power supply, and contact an Authorized Service Dealer to replace it.

IMPORTANT

Check to ensure compliance with all codes and regulation before mounting the power supply.

Mounting the power supply may require additional materials and/or hardware, depending on the type of base material present at your chosen mounting location.

IMPORTANT

Route the power cord to the charging station outside of the mowing area; otherwise, the mower may damage the cord.

2.2: Installing the Power Supply

Parts Required

Power supply

  1. Mount the power supply to your structure at a minimum height of 30 cm (12 inches).
    Note:

Ensure that the power-supply cord has enough slack to plug into the low-voltage cable.

Chapter 3: Lawn Map Variations

3.1: Autonomous Operation Limitations

Your mower is able to operate autonomously in areas that have been mapped through the app. The mower can not mow or use transit paths in areas that have not been mapped.

Note:

If you wish to add an area for autonomous mowing, add it to your map: Select Working Areas and then add a new working area, mowing zone, exclusion zone, or transit path.

3.2: Transit Paths

Transit paths are routes that the mower uses to navigate between 2 mowing areas. They are set up separately from the mowing areas.

Before setting up a transit path, watch the video and note the following:

  • The mower must be at least 0.5 m (1.6 ft) away from any obstacles before starting the transit path mapping process.

  • The mower must be fully within a mowing area before setting up a transit path.

  • The mower transit path can have a wide variety of forms; straight, curved, or windy paths are acceptable.

3.3: Working Areas Separated by a Gate or Opening

If 2 working areas are separated by a fence or other obstacle with a gate or opening, you must teach your mower how to navigate through the passageway. Read the steps below and watch the video to learn how to map the passageway using the Figure 8 technique:

  1. In one of your working areas, position the mower 3 m (10 ft) in front of the passage. Rotate it so that it is parallel to the fence or obstacle.
  2. Start pushing the mower forward and make a wide turn towards the passageway.
  3. Line up your mower so that it will pass one corner of the passageway and pass through to the opposite corner of the passageway. Position the mower as close as possible to the edge of the passageway.
  4. Push the mower in a straight line completely through the passageway.
  5. After the mower is through the passageway, start another wide half-turn in the opposite direction towards the passageway.
  6. Repeat the process in step through the passageway again.
  7. Push and turn the mower until you are at your starting point.
  8. Resume mapping your second working area.

Chapter 4: Lawns Without Objects or Lawns With Many Objects

If your lawn and the surrounding area lacks objects such as buildings, trees, playgrounds, sheds, or bushes, the mower will struggle to operate because it won’t have objects to help determine its location. The mower operates best when there are 5 or more objects it can reference in the surrounding area.

If there are fixed objects in your lawn and your property does not have many other objects to reference, it is recommended to leave these objects in your lawn while doing lawn mapping.

Chapter 5: Exclusion Zones

Exclusion zones are areas within a mowing zone that the mower is instructed not to mow. You can create an exclusion zone within an existing mowing zone during the setup process or after from the dashboard.

Common examples of exclusion zones include landscaping, flower beds, fire pits, protruding roots, pools, or any other objects the mower should not run into, such as trees.

Watch the video to see an example of creating an exclusion zone.

IMPORTANT

Not creating exclusion zones for hazards such as pools or retaining walls could cause the mower to fall, be damaged, or the blades contacting unintended objects.

Ensure that all navigational hazards are mapped within an exclusion zone.

IMPORTANT

The cameras on the mower are not an object-detection system.

Use exclusion zones to map any permanent objects.

5.1: Modifying Exclusion Zones

Exclusion zones cannot be modified once they are created.

If you wish to edit an exclusion zone, delete the existing exclusion zone and create a new exclusion zone instead.

Chapter 6: Troubleshooting an Unresponsive Mower

If there is an issue with your mower (ex. the mower is stuck, the indicator lights are red, or it continues to mow after being instructed to return to the charging station) and the mower is not responding to your instructions from the app refer to the troubleshooting steps in your Operator’s Manual.

If you have tried all of the relevant troubleshooting steps, follow this procedure to fully power cycle the mower.

  1. Press the Stop button on the mower and wait for all moving parts to stop.
  2. Flip the power switch on the mower to the Off position.
  3. Fully close out of the MyToro app.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Flip the power switch on the mower to the On position.
  6. Open the MyToro app and verify that the mower is connected to the internet and your phone.
  7. On the mower keypad, enter your 4-digit code and press the Play button.

Chapter 7: Theft Prevention

7.1: Protecting Your Mower From Theft

An anti-theft device is not included with the robotic mower. However, the mower automatically makes an alarm noise if it is removed from the working area or if it is carried without entering the PIN code. Anti-theft devices are available for purchase separately.

Note:

If you purchase a tracking device, follow the instructions provided with the device.

7.2: Installing an Optional Anti-Theft Device

  1. Remove the screws from the cover.
  2. Place the anti-theft device 1 on the foam pad 2.
  3. Secure the cover using the 2 screws previously removed.

Chapter 8: Wireless Communication Checklist

Note:

The mower communicates directly with your phone during training and setup. However, during autonomous operation, the mower does not need a wireless connection to your phone. If you are changing mower settings from your phone, such as the mowing schedule, it will use the hub to communicate with the mower.

Phone

For setup:

  • Ensure that Bluetooth is turned On and is connected.

  • Check your Internet connectivity.

    Note:

If your phone isn’t connected to your home network, it may be outside the range of your router. Use cellular data in these situations.
