Working Areas Separated by a Gate or Opening

If 2 working areas are separated by a fence or other obstacle with a gate or opening, you must teach your mower how to navigate through the passageway. Read the steps below and watch the video to learn how to map the passageway using the Figure 8 technique:

  1. In one of your working areas, position the mower 3 m (10 ft) in front of the passage. Rotate it so that it is parallel to the fence or obstacle.
  2. Start pushing the mower forward and make a wide turn towards the passageway.
  3. Line up your mower so that it will pass one corner of the passageway and pass through to the opposite corner of the passageway. Position the mower as close as possible to the edge of the passageway.
  4. Push the mower in a straight line completely through the passageway.
  5. After the mower is through the passageway, start another wide half-turn in the opposite direction towards the passageway.
  6. Repeat the process in step through the passageway again.
  7. Push and turn the mower until you are at your starting point.
  8. Resume mapping your second working area.
